Wellbeing at home.
Trying to parent, educate and dedicate time to look after one’s wellbeing during lockdown, and wellbeing at home, has been a challenge. I have been prioritising my child’s needs yet have moments of forgetting mine.
It is imperative to feel healthy and happy when living in circumstances that limit what you would usually do and find new ways of structuring the day.
Reflecting on January, my mood was inconsistent, with some days I was super motivated, and other days, I was not.
What can I do to move forward in February? Not dwell over the days that did not go so well and work on having a healthy mindset. It is ok to accept that there will be bad days too.
The difference with me now, compared to last year is that I have implemented boundaries to create mutual respect. I am having more conversation oppose to just going along with things to please others. It is all a part of me respecting myself as well as building on healthy relationships.
Blogging During Lockdown.
I have a lot of content but have not had the time to organise the photos, edit my work and finalise the blogs. I experienced burnout a few times before, (the last lockdown) so do not want to make the same mistake. So, I am spending less time blogging to have breaks in between looking after my son. Likewise, I am prioritising both my son’s and my mental health and wellbeing.
Now anyone who knows me, knows that I am not a big fan of cold weather. However, when it snowed a few weeks ago, I went outside with my son for a walk and watched him make a snowman. At this moment, the cold did not bother me, and the experience made our day. Being outside in the snow was a mental breather and break away from feeling confined to one space. It also brought the inner child in me out and reminded me never to lose the fun side of me as I get older.
We have been going for walks, and even went for a light jog around a field. It has been nice to get in some exercise and have some fresh air too.
Art has helped us both during the lockdown, creatively and for our psychological wellbeing. (growth and development). Here is an external link to a blog where you can read more about: how art can help improve mental health.
My son has been making more phone calls to family members and has participated remotely in social group activities with his peers.
What is next? We plan to do a lot more cooking together, and science experiments at home during the half-term holidays.
All in all, the key for us is not to overthink, keep a routine going for my son, and find practical ways where he is able to communicate how he is feeling during this time.
